Here are the main such incidents:
There are two major types of incidents / defects that result in data loss on hard drives.
By logical flaws, information becomes inaccessible in conditions where the hard drive is physically perfectly functional. These types of defects can be handled by various file and folder analysis and recovery software.
Physical, mechanical defects
These are another major cause that leads to the need for HDD data recovery. They can be caused by firmware defects (internal disk drive system), electrical faults, or mechanical defects. Recovering data from HDD differs for each case depending on the following criteria:
Firmware defects are restored / repaired using software and hardware devices that access the drive in a way similar to the factory
Electronic faults are remedied by changing nonfunctional components and reprogramming them when needed
Mechanical defects require temporary repair to allow extraction of data. The operations are performed in a classroom of class 100 (Class 100 Clean room). In this room, up to 100 cubic meters of dust can be found in one cubic meter of air, while in a conventional room, up to 3,000,000 dust particles are found in one cubic meter of air. These defects require changing the read / write heads or the drive engine.
